Recently we attended an important event that had been in the diary for a while. No, not England’s first game in the World Cup, but the Facilities Show at the Excel arena in London.
For those who might have missed it, the Facilities Show brought together service providers, suppliers and other asepcts of the Facilities Management industry, all under one roof for just three days.
Claudio and I popped down on Wednesday, and aside from the busy Jubilee line on the way down, our overwhelming experience of the day was how interesting and informative it was, getting an update on all the latest trends that are impacting the industry.
Facilities Show networking opportunities
The Facilities Show also provided the opportunities to meet up with clients and other familiar faces that we haven’t had the opportunity to catch up with in a while.
We believe regular face to face meetings with clients is highly important, which is why Matt and Claudio chose a co-working space in the centre of London.
However while a high proportion of the organisations we supply to are based in the capital. However we do provide coverage across the country so the Facilities Show meant we could meet up with those based further afield.
In some cases it meant finally putting faces to names with those we have established a relationship with, up to this point, purely by phone and email.
Facilities Show insights
Obviously a major part of the Facilities Show is the array of presentations and speakers, giving valuable insight. Ones that particularly stood out included those on health and wellbeing.
Although we operate in the Facilities Mangement sector, we are a recruitment agency, so while the presentation on wellness in the workplace was aimed at FM firms, we still picked up valuable advice on what we could introduce at AYR.
This was especially true about methods we could use as we grow as a business and enable the same standards of care for our team, regardless of its size.
New technology being introduced in the facilities sector
One of the overwhelming aspects of the day was seeing how many different suppliers there were covering a range of services, ranging from LED lights, to asbestos and legionella solutions.
Although we do hear from own our clients and candidates about latest changes in technology and new methods in the industry, it was a good opportunity to see first-hand some of these new technologies that are being introduced.
One real reason for this in my mind, and this might sound obvious, is that you need to be aware for what you are recruiting for and what they would be working on.
Although I am sure some do ‘wing it’ at times, I don’t think you are doing your job properly as a consultant if you are unable to understand what a client or engineer might be talking about, so we found it invaluable to get a greater understanding of a few features.
It was also good to meet some new people and get to know what their businesses do and see if we could help them out in anyway. Some have already been in contact and we are starting to develop working relationships that were an added bonus from attending on the day!
Having been this year, and the rest of the business on previous years, we found it a great day out and a good change from the usual working day. We will definitely be back next year and recommend you do too!
